Formed in 2016, Duo Velox consists of Kaitlyn Neufeld on Clarinet and Aaron Burr on Saxophone. The duo has given performances throughout the southwest and Kansas. As a duo, Kaitlyn and Aaron have performed at the North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference in 2020, the International Clarinet Association in 2021, and the International Duo Symposium in 2024. Duo Velox is an advocate for new music, working with electronics, and pushing the boundaries of the clarinet and saxophone duo in composition and performance. The mission of the ensemble is to expand the canon of the clarinet and saxophone duo, provide community outreach, and commission new music from diverse composers. The members of Duo Velox have recently moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, maintaining active teaching and performing schedules.
About the Performers
Clarinetist Dr. Kaitlyn Neufeld is an active soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. She has performed with the Kansas City Lyric Opera, New Mexico Philharmonic, New Texas Symphony Orchestra, Crossroads Wind Ensemble, Pinnacle Winds, and the Albuquerque Symphony. As an advocate for new music, she regularly commissions new works for clarinet and her duos, Duo Velox and Abraxas Reeds. Dr. Neufeld currently teaches at Dallas College and maintains a large private studio in the Dallas area. Her passion is woodwind pedagogy and can bee seen in her dissertation, A Clarinetist's Guide to Multiple Woodwinds. Her primary teachers are Dr. Stephanie Zelnick, Professor Keith Lemmons, and Dr. David Shea.
A native of northern Arizona, saxophonist and educator Aaron Burr is an advocate for student achievement and new music. Currently, Dr. Burr maintains a thriving private studio both virtually and in the Dallas area where his students have received superior ratings at Solo & Ensemble competitions, in addition to placing in regional bands, and regional jazz bands. Maintaining an active performance schedule, he has performed with Plano Symphony Orchestra, San Angelo Symphony Orchestra, New Texas Symphony Orchestra, and the Greeley Philharmonic. As an advocate of new music Dr. Burr regularly commissions works for saxophone, and recently has been commissioning a series of works for tenor saxophone and fixed media.
